Production Engineer – LGS Innovations – Florham Park, NJ

LGS Innovations, delivering next generation solutions that solve the most complex sensing, networking and communications challenges facing our U.S. Federal Government Customers, is seeking a Production Engineer for our Florham Park, NJ office location.

In this position you will: With minimal direction, instruct a small team in the fabrication, assembly, and characterization of high power photonic sources delivered to customers as prototypes or production units within a low-volume production program in the R&D environment.

LGS Applied Research & Technology – Advanced Multimedia Networking and Communications (AMNC) is seeking candidates for its research and technology Labs in Florham Park, New Jersey. The AMNC lab performs advanced R&D to:
Create novel wireless communications and situational awareness systems using standards based and custom communications protocols.

Create unique small size, weight and power systems for use in air, land and maritime environments

Employ advanced signal and protocol processing, channel modeling and waveform design from HF to W band and optical frequencies as well.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Support the transition from design to prototyping and low-volume manufacturing.

Write detailed documentation that describes and controls fabrication, assembly, and testing processes

Provide resource, cost, and schedule planning in support of programs and proposals

Oversee the day-to-day efforts of a team of laboratory technicians and junior photonic engineers in the construction of high power photonic sources.

Resolve roadblocks

Ensure compliance with LGS quality system

Monitor cost and schedule performance of program

Assign tasks and monitor completion to ensure that timelines are met.

Consult with engineering leads to resolve non-compliances and outlier data sets

Report to program manager and partner with other small program teams to coordinate activities of build, test, component, engineering, and quality teams.

Travel to other LGS Locations or Customer Sites as necessary

Understand and adhere to all LGS Ethical and Compliance policies

Proactively ensure a safe work environment and adhere to LGS EH&S policies and procedures

Perform other duties as required

If required, obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level required to perform the duties of the position

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science field, and 4-6 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.

Master’s Degree preferred

Proficient in the use of lightwave measurement equipment, including power detectors, optical spectrum analyzers, polarization-extinction ratio meters, polarimeters, and optical time domain reflectometers. Proficient in the analysis and interpretation of data collected with such instruments.

Splicing and photonic fabrication knowledge

Leadership, organizational and analytical skills are required

Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications

Highly desirable skills that would allow candidate to broadly contribute to department programs

Proficient use of mechanical computer-aided design software (SolidWorks preferred)

Proficient use of lab automation software (LabView preferred)

Proficient use of 3D printers, machine shop tools, and laser cutters

Ability to obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level necessary to perform the duties of the position
