Job Description
Lumentum’s Commercial Lasers R&D organization is seeking an experienced laser scientist or engineer to work with a team developing new laser technologies. The position entails a range of responsibilities including:
Conception and modeling of new laser designs and frequency-conversion optics
Research, development and evaluation of key components
Performance characterization of lasers, components, and nonlinear stages
Development and documentation of processes
Data analysis, and
Generation and documentation of new IP. The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as in team environments in either leader or follower roles. S/he will interact closely with optical, electrical, and mechanical engineers and with project managers in a structured and fast-paced R&D environment.
Requirements
Ph.D. with specialization in physics, optics, or lasers, or equivalent work experience.
Ability and experience with laser modeling, both running commercial tools and building new code.
Hands-on experience with laser systems, preferably including fiber lasers and frequency-conversion stages, as well as with basic optical elements, including lenses, mirrors, polarizers, apertures, and optical filters, as well as basic optical design and system alignment techniques.
Excellent communication skills.
Track record showing initiative and creativity in executing assignments.
Basic understanding of optical fibers and fiber-processing equipment, such as splicers and cleavers
Experience with high-powerlasers.
