Job Description
As PLC Waveguide Product Engineer you will be responsible for new product introductions of Lumentum’s PLC module products. Starting from design stage, you will work closely with design team to define the specifications and requirements from the perspectives of design for manufacturability, design for cost, and design for quality. You will be the lead to solve the major issues in activities including yield and productivity improvement, cost reduction. You will be the major contact point to drive the NPI activities associated with Lumentum’s contract manufacturer during design and process development phase. You will collaborate with all supporting teams’ activities including processing engineering, testing engineering, supply chain, quality.
Additional responsibilities will include managing the bill of materials, process document control, test plans. The focus will be on activities to support ramping newly developed products into volume production and coordinating efforts between R&D team and Operations.
In this position you will also:
- Define production requirements and specifications
- Support BOMs and process document control
- Review DFX, including manufacturability, cost, and quality
- Interface with design team and wafer fab
- Communicate with off-shore CM teams
- Coordinate with supply chain, quality, PLM, sales
- Define and/or validate production test requirements
- Drive pilot builds and pre-production forecasts into Operations
- Review pilot-production test data (Process Validation, EVT and DVT)
- Review and validate product cost targets
Requirements
BS in engineering/science with 10+ years related industry experience (fiber optical communication systems and or components). MS/PhD preferred and 5+ years related industry experience (fiber optical communication systems and or components).
10+ years of technical engineering or academia experience.
5+ years of technical experience in fiber optical communication systems and/or components
Solid understanding of fiber optics physics, familiarity with PLC/Waveguide technology is a plus
Strong knowledge and hand-on experience on fiber optics testing instruments.
Process development background utilizing DOE, SPC, DFX, FMEA, and Telcordia qualification.
Frequent user of JMP is highly desired.
Experience interacting/transferring to Contract Manufacturers
Willingness and ability to have calls/meetings with multiple time zones
Proven history in solving technical questions/problems
