D&K Engineering has a long term need for experienced Electrical Engineer Technician for their Ranch Bernardo manufacturing site.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
These may include, but are not limited to: ?
Set up, check, and correct operational and experimental electro-mechanical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications
Create breadboards of new circuits from schematics
Construct test jigs for circuit boards in R&D stage, and for products going into production
Construct and rework cables from sketches, schematics or occasionally verbal instructions ?
Survey common supplies that the Lab is short of and sort and store leftover parts from projects
Knowledge of basic electronics so can quickly read labels on bags of parts that describe secondary characteristics of parts
Able to put together kits: Read excel spreadsheets, pull parts from lab bins, note on the PC the shortages
Basic soldering skills ideally include .050-inch fine pitch
Alertly maintain ESD threat awareness and proper ESD prevention techniques at times
Assist engineers in projects and research and development
Provide solutions to technical problems
May build or set up equipment, conduct experiments, and collect data and calculate results
Maintenance of tools and check calibration dates on EE equipment and document
Ability to use all functions on a DMM, and the generic operations of name brand oscilloscopes
May provide quality control assistance and must exercise good attention to detail
May help to design and develop test fixtures
May produce technical drawings and/or engineering drawings
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education/Experience: High School Diploma/GED with 4-6 years’ experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years’ experience; or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Experience: Typically requires 4-6 years of experience.
Job Complexity: Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.
SUPERVISION:
Normally follows established procedures on routine work, requires instructions only on new assignments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: An understanding of mechanical theory as well as experience with motors and interface applications. Knowledge of component related mechanical failure modes and the physics behind it, as well as, the understanding of Root Cause Analysis concepts. Ability to facilitate Design Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analyses (DFMECA) and provide technical direction for engineers and lab technicians.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
Equipment: PC, scanners, facsimile machine, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines or ability to be trained.
Software Knowledge: Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
EFFORT REQUIRED:
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Intermittently answer telephone. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
