Electronics Engineer – Physical Optics – Torrance, CA

A fast-growing Southern California high tech company specializing in advanced military defense, homeland security, and energy solutions is seeking a highly motivated and creative Electronics Engineer for its Photonic Systems Division. The successful candidate will have a BS or MS in electrical engineering or a related field with hands-on experience in rapid development of custom electronics. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end development of various designs that involve schematic design, PCB layout, fabrication, embedded firmware development, and testing for diverse applications. This work will also include responsibility for designing and developing a variety of multi-disciplinary technologies, taking concepts on paper and making them into functional products within a limited time-frame. Responsibilities will include developing embedded C code, developing and testing electronics hardware, and running one-off test set-ups and experiments.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :
Responsibilities

Develop reliable custom electronics systems and devices (including design, layout, fabrication, testing, and rapid iteration) for new and ongoing research and product-development efforts.

Implement electronics systems using microcontrollers, peripherals (A-to-D and D-to-A converters, FPGAs, sensors, drivers, cameras, memory), embedded code (in C), and analog circuits for a wide variety of applications.

Debug complex systems including custom electronics, firmware, and software.

Education

Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Experience

5+ years end-to-end electronic circuit design and development

Experienced with writing software for 8/16/32 bit microcontrollers

Experience with writing VHDL code for FPGA subsystems is a plus

Experience with analog and mixed-signal design is a plus.

Experience with Windows software development in C/C++ is a plus.

Experience with environmental sensors, optical sensors, or cameras is a plus.

Skills

Ability to be hands-on, quickly taking projects from concept to functioning hardware that can be put to use immediately

Ability to grasp the fundamentals of unfamiliar technologies and develop simple, creative, and reliable solutions within a limited time frame.

Fluent with C/C++ in embedded and standard computer architectures

Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Must be willing and able to obtain a Security Clearance or have an active Secret Security Clearance
