Edmund Optics is seeking an Optical Engineer – Rapid Design and Prototyping.  An Optical Engineer has an Optics or Physics Engineering background and has demonstrated skill and initiative to solve technical problems and organize projects and work in their assigned area.  The Optical Engineer is self-directed and can work independently.


Essential Functions:

  • Develop optical performance system tests and test devices
  • Assist in the evaluation and feasibility study of new designs
  • Work on various projects as assigned by management
  • Organize and follow through on assigned projects in an independent manner, including project schedule
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot opto-mechanical assemblies, or opticalmechanical fabrication processes
  • Develop assembly, fabrication, and test procedures
  • May be required to use a ladder to organize or obtain supplies
  • May be required to use machining equipment and power tools to modify parts or equipment
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Read and understand assembly drawings, blue prints, work orders and work instructions.
  • Intermediate/advanced mechanical skills.
  • Intermediate/advanced computer skills.

Education/Experience:

B.S. Degree in Optical Engineering or Physics and/or 10 years assembly est experience.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time; ability to travel; work in office setting.


Other Requirements:

  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required
