Job Summary
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL’s Spectroscopy and Photoscience Group, Chemistry and Nanosience Center has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher working on the electro-optical characterization of photovoltaic materials and devices. The goal of this research is to use optical spectroscopy to ascertain material properties, to understand how the properties and device architecture influence the solar cell performance, and thereby reveal strategies for improving the solar cells. The assignment is for two years with possible renewal for the third year.
This position requires an expert in time-resolved laser spectroscopy and carrier dynamics in semiconductors. The successful candidate will utilize photoluminescence, time-resolved PL, and two-photon excitation TRPL to resolve fundamental materials issues in the development and optimization of photovoltaic technologies, such as CdTe and other thin film semiconductors. The successful candidate will have experience in Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) or other modeling and simulation methods and use of modeling and simulation for the interpretation of optical spectroscopy and microcopy data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong publication record are preferred.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Preferred Qualifications
A doctorate degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or other relevant discipline. Relevant education and experience consistent with duties. Thorough knowledge of semiconductor device physics and the relationship between semiconductor material properties and semiconductor device performance. Hands on experience with optical measurements of minority carrier lifetime, tuning and maintenance of mode-locked femtosecond lasers, regenerative amplifiers, and optical parametric oscillators. Experience with photovoltaic materials and devices.
