Essential Functions: • Work on a wide array of open-ended projects to further the company’s technological differentiation • Provide upfront technical risk assessment of new projects • Keep up to date on the latest developments in the optical field such that novel solutions can be explored ahead of competition • Work onsite at factory locations to troubleshoot and/or develop manufacturing processes for novel programs • Utilize an array of software tools to perform low cost modeling and feasibility studies ahead of hardware implementation • Organize and follow through on assigned projects in an independent manner, including project schedule. • Evaluate and troubleshoot opto-mechanical assemblies, or optical fabrication processes. • Develop assembly, fabrication and test procedures. • Perform analytical and empirical studies in a lab environment of various optical components and systems • Clearly document and present work in written reports. • May be required to use shop and power tools to modify parts or equipment.

Required Skills & Abilities: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Proficient in the use of various software tools such as Labview, Matlab or Mathematica. General programming knowledge in C++, Python or similar. Exposure to design software such as Zemax, and Solidworks (or other mechanical design software) as well as FEA knowledge in environments such as COMSOL, DYNA, or Abaqus. Statistical process control in JMP, Minitab or Design-expert a plus. • Intermediate/advanced mechanical skills. • Approximately 20% travel required
Education/Experience: M.S. Degree or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electronics or Physics and minimum 5 years applied experience.
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel; work in office and/or lab setting.
