Professorship (W3) in Applied Optics
INSTITUTE OF APPLIED OPTICS I OCTOBER 1ST, 2018
The faculty seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate for the
position of Director of the Institute of Applied Optics (Institut
für Technische Optik). The applicant is expected to lead several
research groups and to cover the entire field of applied optics
in research and teaching with an emphasis on fundamentals
and applications of engineering optics, optical measurement
techniques and optical information processing which are to be
taught in bachelor’s and master’s courses for engineers and
physicists. We also expect active participation in the Master
Programs „Medical Engineering“ and „Photonic Engineering“.
We are looking for a candidate with an international reputation
who can address all topics of modern applied optics, high
resolution measurement science, sensor fusion, computerassisted
imaging, digital optics as well as the manufacturing
and characterization of technical, optical and biological
surfaces in research and teaching. Familiarity with modern
engineering optics, systems theory, image processing and
simulation technology is expected.
A willingness to cooperate and contribute to the joint medical
engineering initiative of the Universities of Stuttgart and
Tübingen, the Stuttgart Research Centers of Photonic
Engineering SCoPE, the “Produktionstechnische Zentrum
Stuttgart” as well as with colleagues from the faculty and the
university in general is expected.
Experience in industry and/or research in a leadership position
and a background including innovative research and development
projects is of advantage.
