The City University of New York’s newest facility, the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) builds on the success of the University’s rich past with the goal of becoming a leader in visionary scientific research in the future. Focusing on the fields of Structural Biology, Nanotechnology, Photonics, Neuroscience, and Environmental Sciences, the ASRC will operate as a nucleus of a University-wide science enterprise, fostering the development of an integrated research network that brings together faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows from CUNY’s colleges across the five boroughs. This state-of-the-art, world-class facility will house a staff of elite scientists and leaders who will seek to break down the walls between disparate but increasingly interrelated disciplines of applied science. The CUNY ASRC Structural Biology Initiative seeks applications from individuals with experience in computational biology, computer science, biology and chemistry to serve as a Part-Time Computational Science Assistant. This is position is funded from June 2017 to Auguest 2017. Reporting directly to the Sr. Research Director of Computational Sciences, the Computational Science Assistant will assist in the computational study of the structure of RNA molecules from the HIV virus. Successful work on the project could lead to publications. The position will involve extensive use of computers. Successful candidates must have experience in computer programming with either the Java or Python programming languages (preferably both) and should have an interest in computational science. Other Duties Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a field closely applicable to the subject of the project; OR OR A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a generally related field and related work of at least one (1) year duration on research of general applicability. Preferred Skills BS/BA in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Computational Biology/Computer Science or coursework in both computer science and in chemistry/biochemistry. |
