Purpose of the Position
The primary responsibility of the Laser Technician is to assemble and test products containing complex optical, mechanical, and electronic components. Works under general supervision.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: • Mechanical, electrical and optical assembly of complex laser systems following written procedures and instructions • Optical alignment of free space laser cavities and related setups to defined specifications • Performing measurements and filling out production/QC records • Regularly updating engineers and supervisors on progress, issues and concerns related to the production/QC process and specific system builds. • Providing feedback and recommendations for process improvement.
In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures. • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
Physical Activities:
Work is performed in a sanitized laboratory. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as masks, glasses and gloves. Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications
Experience: • 2 years in a similar position preferred Education: • Associate’s degree in Electronics or Engineering, Laser/Electro-optics Technology or equivalent Specialized Knowledge and Skills: • Knowledge of laser technology and laser cavity alignment • Prior laser safety training, particularly including Class IV lasers. • Familiarity with Cleanroom environments. • Experience with electro-optical test equipment: M-squared meters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, spectrometers, beam profilers, optical power meters, etc. • Computer programming experience (e.g. C/C++/C#, Python, • LabView, MATLAB) is a plus. • Experience with Ti:Sapphire lasers, particularly ultrafast (mode-locked) lasers, is a plus. • Good Mechanical aptitude is required • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel.
