Duties: Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Physics will serve a full time nine-month appointment. The position is responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level Physics courses and this includes; preparing and reviewing lectures and laboratory exercises; preparing and grading quizzes and exams; submitting textbook requisitions and course syllabus; student recruiting and advising; attending faculty meetings and other duties as required. Course load is up to 12 credit hours per semester with course release for those working on external contracts or grants supporting graduate students.

The successful candidates will be expected to establish an outstanding and externally-funded research program involving graduate, undergraduate students, and postdoctoral scientists, contribute to teaching at all levels, and create a multidisciplinary group of researchers that share advanced skills in material science and technology with the freedom to explore next generation applications without disciplinary constraints.

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field and an outstanding record of research accomplishments, which makes the case the candidate, can establish and support a research group. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. Candidates for this position are expected to have an outstanding research record and exhibit potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop a high quality, independent externally funded research program as well as teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Assistant/Associate Professor position should be in a topic related to experimental condensed matter physics with an emphasis on the synthesis and characterization of nanometer thick multilayer magnetic films. Characterization of films, and bulk materials using electrons, photons, or other novel techniques is a plus. The appointment should begin 16 August 2017. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with physics faculty but independently form and fund their own research group. The candidate’s research expertise is expected to complement existing work within the department. The department has a state of art SEM, AFM, MFM, three Laser deposition systems, and other major items of capital equipment.

Requirements: Excellent oral and written English language communication skills, excellent organization skills; ability to work and communicate effectively; evidence of curriculum development and the ability to relate well to others within a multiethnic, multi culturally diverse student population. Due to the proximity of Morgan State University to department of defense (DOD) research facilities and contractors candidates have the ability to acquire a U.S. Government security clearance. In the case of candidates wishing to pursue Cyber Security related applications or topics those, which have the ability to acquire a Top Secret security clearance, are preferred. In addition candidates must be able to obtain both TSA and DHS suitability.
