This position will be a Principal Engineer or Scientist. Title will be commensurate with education and experience. The successful candidate will fulfill the following responsibilities: ·Develop novel technologies and products relevant to specialty fiber business.
·Stay abreast of technical advances in specialty fiber. Work with senior management as well as sales and marketing organization to identify potentially lucrative products and markets.
·Initiate, propose and execute promising projects and pursue product development and market introduction.
·Use well balanced experimental and theoretical approaches to problem solving and product development.
·Work independently and also participate in or lead cross-functional teams to develop novel fiber designs and fabrication processes. Develop relevant tools to characterize the fibers.
·Work with engineers and technicians to document product designs and processes to enable efficient transfer of products to engineering and manufacturing groups.
·Work with engineering and marketing groups to finalize product specifications and create marketing collateral for new product introductions.
·Manage projects and report technical status, risks, and challenges to senior management.
·Support other Nufern business units by providing technical support related to specialty fibers. Understand specific requirements to design and manufacture unique fibers to achieve specified performance.
·Interact with customers on specialty fiber requests; identify needs and propose solutions within Nufern’s manufacturing abilities.
·Identify inventions and work with patent counsel to file for patents.
·Author technical articles for journals and present at appropriate technical conferences. Education and Work Experience ·Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Optics, Photonics or Physics
·Minimum 2 years of experience (Job title commensurate with experience) in scientific R&D positions, either in industry or in a research group at a university.
·Experience with managing projects of significant scope: project definition, formulation, gaining support from product or others groups as necessary, providing technical guidance and risk management for timely execution.
·Specialized skills such as numerical modeling and simulation tools for analyzing complex optical waveguides and fiber structures is a plus.
·Demonstrated ability to execute end-to-end development efforts: waveguide and/or process design, characterization, performance analysis, trouble-shooting, and progress reporting.
·Experimental and/or numerical simulation expertise required in specialty optical fibers for light propagation, generation and sensing.
·Strong problem-solving skills and ability to innovate both in the fields of specialty fibers and sensors.
·Ability to develop novel specialty fiber products, within system and business constraints, outperforming worldwide competitors.
·Demonstrated record of publication and oral presentation in top-tier journals and conferences.
·Strong communication skills both written and oral. This role is expected to present ideas, concepts and designs and gain acceptance of proposals, and work closely with product manager, engineers and customers.
·Must be self-motivated and self-directed to be an effective team member.
·Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work with a cross-functional team.
· Works independently with minimal guidance.
· Relies on extensive experience and judgment to develop project plans and accomplish goals. |
