Assistant, Associate or Full Professor – Neuroscience – The City University of New York (CUNY) – New York, NY

The Neuroscience Initiative of the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center in Manhattan, NY, invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty members at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank.

We seek outstanding scientists with strong records of significant research accomplishments in the fields of: glial biology, metabolism, epigenetics, gut/brain communication, environmental effects on brain structure and behavior, interfacing nanotechnology or photonics with neurobiology. We are also interested in candidates with a strong background in Bioinformatics, Network Analysis, Large data integration.

Faculty members perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

We encourage applications from candidates with innovative ideas, open to interdisciplinary approaches and with a demonstrated use of a wide range of experimental and computational approaches to tackle fundamental questions in neurobiology.

Opened in Fall 2014, the 200,000ft CUNY ASRC offers a highly interactive and collaborative environment that integrates five disciplines: neuroscience, photonics, structural biology, nanoscience and environmental sciences. Combining world-class experts in these areas with state-of-the-art instrumentation both in the building and within the New York City area, the ASRC offers a unique opportunity for new research programs to flourish and bridge conceptual gaps among traditionally disparate scientific areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or closely related discipline required. Also required are demonstrated research scholarship and achievements, the ability to teach successfully, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Successful candidates are expected to have advanced degrees (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent) in any area of biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, plus at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience. Final faculty ranks will be determined based on the overall qualifications, including scholar contributions and expertise, a demonstrated commitment to conducting high-level scientific research adopting interdisciplinary approaches, a collaborative spirit and passion for education. Individuals considered for these positions are expected to serve a major role in shaping an outstanding research mission at the ASRC, while fulfilling the educational mission of the New York City Public University System at CUNY.
