Field Applications Engineer- MILITARY Sensor Systems

A fast-growing Southern California high tech company specializing in advanced military defense, homeland security, and energy solutions is seeking a highly motivated and creative Field Applications Engineer for its Photonic Systems Division, primarily in support of the division’s growing Micro Weather Sensor (MWS) product line as well as expanding sensor systems portfolio. This position will provide both remote and onsite technical support to future and existing military customers, including system demonstrations, group training, and system troubleshooting.

Our ideal candidate will have an excellent military record demonstrating significant levels of responsibility and experiences in operational/tactical environments and/or electrical hardware support, ideally for small sensor systems. He/She should have strong technical intuition with a basic understanding of electronics fundamentals, excellent computer skills, experience with (or knowledge of) military hardware integration challenges, and self-motivation to provide the best service and tactical hardware capabilities to our military.

In conjunction with POC’s Business Development team, this individual will also be responsible for gathering user technical requirements and feedback, and working with the division’s engineering team to refine the current product line as well as help shape our expanding product portfolio. The successful candidate will have excellent technical communication skills and a positive approach to working in an interdisciplinary environment with both military professionals as well as scientists and engineers. This is a new role with the opportunity for growth and expansion of responsibilities and team based on drive, creativity, and success.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :

  • Responsibilities

    • Conduct onsite demonstrations of POC’s sensor systems to military end users in support of development and implementation for specific customer applications
    • Provide both remote and onsite technical support to customers, to include analysis of user sensor data, troubleshooting discrete electronic sensors, and preparing technical reports based on analysis and resolution
    • Provide on-site training to military end-users in both classroom and field settings; create informative training manuals and engaging courses for users
    • Assist business development staff in assessing applications to meet customer needs and preparing product specifications and customer implementation plans
    • Embody customers’ interests, applications, and needs at internal POC technical meetings to influence growth and expansion of POC’s sensor products
  • Education

    • Associate’s degree in a technical field (required); Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (preferred)
    • 3+ years of relevant military service or other work experience is equivalent to an associate’s degree; 5+ years are equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience

    • 5+ years in a technical development and/or maintenance capacity
    • Demonstrated experience working hand-in-hand with customers
    • Experience in weather monitoring and/or small, portable sensor systems is a plus
    • Experience in sales or customers relations, especially with the military, is a plus
    • Former military service is a plus
  • Skills

    • Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Understands technical concepts across a range of fields (mechanical, electrical, and production) in order to identify and support issue resolution
    • Must be team-oriented and demonstrate a high level of professionalism and customer service
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced, and challenging environment with minimal supervision
    • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Must be willing and able to obtain a Security Clearance or have an active Secret Security Clearance
