Responsibilities
Interact with a multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of integrated fiber optic, opto-electrical, and electrical systems and subsystems for ground and space applications.
Define appropriate design, analysis and verification/test plans for new and existing fiber, photonic, and passive/active electro-optical components.
Support the electrical and optical characterization of photonic components and subsystems; identify and understand the reliability implications of their construction and testing.
Fabrication, assembly and test of fiber optic, photonic and electro-optical components through system testing and final integration on the instrument/spacecraft.
Evaluate the reliability of existing designs and standard products (COTS) for their use in spaceflight instrument and spacecraft bus designs.
Perform thermal simulations to assess the reliability impact of temperature stresses (mechanical and electrical/optical) over specified survival and operating conditions.
Creation and management of mechanical design models and drawings using SolidWorks, PRO/Engineer, or similar design package is a plus.
Requirements
BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics is required, with a minimum of 10 years of applicable work experience.
Applicant shall demonstrate working knowledge for a broad range of high speed electronic, electro-optical, and fiber optic components used in space or other high reliability aerospace applications.
Applicant shall demonstrate capability for the proper handling of fiber/fiber optic assembly, including termination, polishing, and optical testing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
