Assistant Professor – Bioelectronics – University of Massachusetts Amherst – Amherst, MA

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ( ECE ) and the Institute for Applied Life Sciences ( IALS ) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) invite applications for one or two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant level in the area of bioelectronics (devices, circuits or systems). The research will help advance the mission of the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring (CPHM) in developing new health sensing systems. A number of regional facilities provide outstanding opportunities for collaboration including the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Baystate Medical Center. A Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) grant of $95M to UMass Amherst is being used to equip its new Bioelectronics SLife Sciences Laboratories in preparation for the added growth in faculty. Requirements:

The successful hire would work at boundaries between ECE and the life or computational sciences and have expertise in areas including but not limited to novel nano electronic devices for bioelectrical interfaces, flexible/stretchable/printable electronics, ultralow power circuits and sensors, and RF/THz/photonic integrated circuits and systems.

The candidates will be expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program, must be committed to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical and computer engineering, and should have an understanding of diversity issues and their educational importance. Interest in contributing to multidisciplinary education and research programs will be favorably viewed. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field at the time of appointment. The new hire will collaborate with IALS faculty to translate research results into therapeutic goals, interact with industry scientists, and provide essential training for the next generation of biomedical scientists. The UMass Amherst campus is committed to the development of translational and basic research programs while fostering interactions with industry.
