Research Support Instruments (RSI), located just outside of DC in Lanham, MD, is seeking an Engineer/Scientist with experience in free-space optical communication, bit error rate measurements, and amplification of communication signals (Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers).  Successful candidate will be working with signal generators, laser diodes and Mach-zender modulators to create  Pulse Position Modulation and Differential Phase Shift Keying communication signals. Candidate will be working with free-space optics,  coupling amplifier output into fiber optics, analyzing amplifier output, examining bit error rates and preparing the system for field deployment.  Optical fiber splicing experience is a plus.

This position may also support additional NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) programs performing systems concept development, design, analyses, hardware development, integration and test, operations, and data analysis.

Bachelor’s Degree in Physics or Engineering is required with higher degrees considered a plus.  Relevant experience is prioritized.

US Citizenship is required.  The position is located in the Washington DC area. Relocation is required.
