The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester invites applications for a junior tenure-track
faculty position. Openings exist for outstanding individuals with a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Optics,
Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will be expected to pursue a vigorous research program and to teach and advise
at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We invite applications from candidates with innovative
research expertise across all areas of optics, photonics and imaging including especially optical theory,
optical materials and optical physics.

Founded in 1929, The Institute of Optics is the first academic Optics program in the U.S. It offers B.S.
degrees in Optics and in Optical Engineering, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optics, with over 350
students currently enrolled. Institute faculty have collaborative opportunities with research centers
such as the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the Center for Visual Science, the Center for High Energy
Density Physics, the Center for Freeform Optics, AIM Photonics as well as departments within UR’s
adjacent Medical Center. Faculty also have frequent collaboration with 50+ members of our Industrial
